Priced Nostalgia, like all self-respecting 80s toys fans, was eagerly awaiting the announcement of the National Toy Hall of Fame winners. My Little Pony, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, was nominated. They did not, however, win.

Though the museum announced that only 2 of the 12 nominees would be inducted tomorrow, they announced 3 winners this evening.

The 2007 Toy Hall of Fame Nominees were (winners are bolded):

  • Atari Game System
  • Baby Doll
  • Big Wheel
  • Game of Life
  • Hot Wheels
  • Kite
  • My Little Pony
  • Pogo Stick
  • Raggedy Andy*
  • Skateboard
  • Spirograph
  • Yahtzee

*Raggedy Ann is already in the Hall of Fame.

The requirements for induction were: "Icon-status (the toy is widely recognized, respected, and remembered); Longevity (the toy is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed popularity over multiple generations); Discovery (the toy fosters learning, creativity, or discovery through play); and Innovation (the toy profoundly changed play or toy design)."

(We should note that this list sparked quite a debate here at PN where most of us are of the thought that it’s not fair to put such general toys like kite, baby doll and skateboard up against the likes of My Little Pony and Atari.)

Regardless of what the National Toy Hall of Fame says, though, MLP is still tops with us. In celebration of the nomination, we are pleased to offer just under 100 My Little Pony items for auction this week in our eBay store. G1, G2 and G3 items are all up for grabs with no reserve and a starting bid of under $1. Take a look!

That’ll teach them not to give the gals from Dream Valley (or Ponyland or Ponyville depending on your generation) their due!
