Masters of the Universe Celebrates 30 Years with New Products:

NEW YORK — By the power of Grayskull, Classic Media has signed several new consumer products for Masters of the Universe.

New to the Classic Media portfolio are: DC Entertainment (comics, graphic novels), New Era Cap Co. (headwear), Skinit (electronics skins and cases), Funko (Bobbleheads, Pop! Vinyl figures), Icon Heroes (miniature environments and desk accessories), PopFun (glassware and decorative refrigerator magnets) and Mixo (collectible paper figures). Classic Media also added on partners Mill Creek (home entertainment), Changes (apparel) and costumes by Disguise.

The new Masters of the Universe products will hit retail by fall 2012 just in time for the brand’s 30th anniversary.

First created in 1982 by Mattel, the Masters of the Universe quickly grew into a franchise, from popular action figures and comics to the animated series, which premiered in 1983. The cartoon followed the battles between hero He-Man and nemesis Skeletor on the planet Eternia. The famous He-Man call left viewers chanting “By the power of Grayskull.” Today, the franchise still has a cult following, who can take part in collector events at this year’s San Diego and New York Comic Con events.

“What first started as a hit cartoon series and action figure line has transformed into a pop culture phenomenon that has spanned three decades,” said Carole Levine, vice president, boys brand marketing, Mattel, in a statement. “Celebrating Masters of the Universe 30th Anniversary with best-in-class partners is a testament to the franchise’s continued popularity and loyal fan base.”
